Beef - Natural Grass Fed Organic Vs Factory Farm Beef

Although I'm writing an article about beef natural grass fed organic I want to remind you that I'm a vegetarian. I do not push my views on anyone, however, and most of my friends and family eat beef. Does that bother me? Nope, as long as they eat organic meat that comes from grass-fed cows. I originally became a vegetarian because of moral reason, however the health factor is now what draws me to it most. I still believe animal factories (which is where most of our meat comes from nowadays) is immoral and terrible for the environment, but now I am a bit more open-minded towards eating meat that comes from animals that were able to live a somewhat decent life before getting slaughtered.

Now enough about me, let's talk about the beef! Why did I propose my friends start eating grass fed beef as opposed to typical meat? Because a lot of them are on diets, and grass-fed beef is much lower in total fat. This is a big deal- there is about 25 percent less total fat content in cattle raised on pastures when compared to a corn fed cow in an animal factory. Don't believe me? As the USDA, who labels almost all grass-fed beef as 'lean' meat! The reason for this difference in total fat content is that grass-fed cattle eat what they are supposed to be eating, therefore they process what they're consuming better. Also, corn-fed cattle are forced to gain weight very fast so they can be slaughtered for their meat more quickly. The type of fat these cows put on is very unhealthy for people to be consuming.

Another reason I ask my friends and family to choose grass-fed beef is because it isn't pumped full of hormones! Grain-fed cattle are injected with hormones, again, to increase productivity and profit for meat producing companies. I'm guessing you wouldn't want to ingest those. Instead of hormones, grass-fed cattle are filled with omega-3 fatty acids. That's right, they dine on grasses and plants that are chock full of omega 3's and the benefits can be passed on to you! This is important because these fatty acids can prevent cancer, lower high blood pressure, and lower cholesterol.

If you need yet another reason, here it is...the bone marrow of cows that are grass-fed is full of CLA (conjugated linoleic acid). Most of you probably haven't heard of this stuff, but the just is that it contains anti-oxidant properties, which helps prevent cancer. This is always a good thing. Additionally, it increases your metabolism (which can help you lose more weight), and boosts your immune system.

So if you care about the environment, if you want to prevent cancer, and if you want to stay fit....stick to organic grass-fed beef! And for those of you that have some moral issues about eating meat, but like it too much to become vegetarian, this is the way to go
